The Weekly Atticus

This Week at Atticus Review

A recap of the week's writing at Atticus Review. Intro by Christopher Linforth.

We're currently reading your stunning submissions for our Internet-themed issue and we hope to read more of what you have to offer! For this August issue, we're interested in the ways the advent of the Internet Age has influenced literature, altered our sense of being and sense of belonging, made us rethink connection and connectivity, and changed our daily lives. We're open to work that interrogates and celebrates contemporary online culture, and work that considers the intersections of digital technologies in our on- and off-screen lives. Though this may sound formal, we're very open to creative work that broaches Internet culture and Internet-influenced life, in more tangential and interesting ways. Consider submitting today!

This week we're spotlighting more terrific work from our spring issue: a haunting piece of creative nonfiction by Mary Mandeville, a nostalgic poem by Danny Caine, a taut story by Hege Leprim, and three incredible videopoems by Janet Lees. On the Attic, Ashley Espinoza reviews Dave Housley's latest novel The Other Ones!

Remember you can also write for the Attic section of Atticus Review. I'm looking for articles/interviews/CNF-style pieces related to all matters literary. Subscribers of this newsletter can pitch me at: [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you. Please note that book reviews still need to go through Submittable. Check out the archives for the sort of pieces we like.

Until next week, thanks so much for reading. Christopher LinforthEditor-in-Chief

BOOK REVIEW: THE OTHER ONES BY DAVID HOUSLEYreviewed byAshley Espinoza"This novel follows the lives of those who did not play the lottery, but their coworkers did. Each person who played won 8.8 million dollars. The other ones, the ones who did not win, are left behind and the reader gets to follow them in the office for a year."

HOW TO TELL A STORYbyHege Lepri"Everybody enjoys a good costume drama. Forget about the sleeves being too long and rimmed with dirt because that hoodie was the only thing you would wear back then."
