Poetry and Prose for the Fall Equinox

News for the Fall Equinox

Ten Billion Updates from the Review

It's the first day of autumn! For the literary world, this means we have a lot to look forward to in the next few months. Banned Books Week begins October 1, and soon after that the Nobel Prize in Literature will be announced, among nominations for other prizes like the Pushcart. Some writers will embark on National Novel Writing Month in November, while others will enjoy the tradition of telling scary stories around campfires. As for Atticus Review, we're still luxuriating in Issue Five, and we also have some updates for October!

We're Looking for Poetry Readers

You've been sending us a ton of poems, and we'd like to add some dedicated readers. For a commitment of about 4 hours a week, readers will review and rank poetry submissions. We're looking for readers dedicated to the craft, but who are also familiar with our own poetic tastes. If you're a fan, you'll know what we mean, possibly even better than we do.

Poetry Submissions Will Close October 1

Prose submissions will stay open for the fall, but for now, we need to switch off the poetry faucet. We'll keep you posted for when poetry submissions will open again!

Fee-Free Submissions for Prose

On the first of the month, we will have our next fee-free day for fiction and creative nonfiction.

  Atticus is on Bluesky

A contributor was kind enough to send us an invite to the alternative to Twitter, and so we set up shop. If you're on Bluesky, you can find us @atticusreview.bsky.social, and if not, we're still on Instagram and, for now at least, the other site whose owner has turned it into even more of a cesspool of bigotry and scams and confusion than it already was. On another note, I spent a good few hours the other day reading newsletters about science, politics, and literature, and you know what? I actually had a good time reading full paragraphs! Imagine that.

We're Looking for More Book Reviews

What are you reading? Do you have any arcs? We're looking for interviews and book reviews for new books that are set to launch this fall. We like indie presses and chapbooks, but we also publish reviews of books from the big presses, too, especially if they're debut authors. We want to support new writers, and an early review is sometimes the best way to shore up pre-sales.In the meantime, I hope you keep writing. The world needs it.Peace,Keene ShortEditor-in-ChiefAtticus Review
