We're Looking for Fiction Readers

Join Atticus

Do you like stories? Do you like talking about them with other people? We're looking for a few fiction readers to join Atticus Review! You can send us a brief application through Submittable. While it can sometimes be difficult to summarize any given journal's tastes, sensibilities, and aesthetic, you can get a good sense of what we like by reading our most recent issue, but our fiction editor, Z Kennedy-Lopez, sums it up quite nicely, too:"We embrace all forms of fiction, whether it’s “fiction ¯\(ツ)/¯” or  Fiction or some kind of -fiction. We want stories with real stakes and  feelings, regardless of the shape they take. We like lyrical. We like  dark humor. We like interesting & interestingly told."

As a reader, you can expect about 4 hours a week when submissions are open. You also get a fancy place on our masthead and the opportunity to see how the sausage gets edited.I have a lot of fond memories of reading for literary journals. It was a way to stay connected with other writers, to build community with one another, and also to see how discussions of quality and taste take shape. It helped me see my own writing in contrast. It helped me see, first-hand, what editors discuss with one another, and what readers are able to see highlighted in the work they love the most. It's a good experience that I think all writers should try at some point.Atticus in September Polish your prose and reheat your metaphors, because we open for regular submissions in September! Additionally, we will return to our almost-monthly fee-free days on September 1st. In the meantime, I hope you keep writing. The world needs it.Peace,Keene ShortEditor-in-ChiefAtticus Review
